LITERACY THROUGH THE ARTS

A UNIQUE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM FOR GRADES K 5

Jointly sponsored by the Port Chester Council for the Arts & Southern Westchester BOCES
"The arts invite students to be active participants in the world rather than mere observers"

The Literacy Through the Arts Program:

  • · Encourages each child's natural enthusiasm for the arts: drawing, painting, sculpting, telling and acting out stories, singing, dancing, sewing, writing, etc.
  • · Enhances each child's listening and speaking skills through interaction with professional artists.
  • · Expands each child's knowledge of the arts through a variety of arts activities that appeal to all types of learners.
  • · Reflects the New York State Standards for language arts, social studies and the arts.
